This video covers the safety concerns about self-teaching. With the normalization of aerial tutorials, should you teach yourself? At the beginning of the pandemic, there was an aerial rig shortage because so many people were buying rigs, including absolute beginners interested in teaching themselves at home. While many things can be learned at home, aerial is a specialized skill that comes with very serious risks. Aerial is all about risk reduction, you cannot eliminate it completely, but professionals in the industry have created a general consensus over the years about safety regulation. There are several principles that are pounded into the head of any aerialist taking classes with a professional, and in teacher trainings- and that is not to try new skills at home. For beginners, this means that beginning aerial at home misses the opportunity for crucial foundational skills that will prevent injury and serious harm, but that doesn't mean you will never be able to practice at home.
