What is human? Where is the line between human and animal? Is it worth seeking from the perspective of modern science? Among the visible manifestations of humankind as an active, already cosmic force, art deserves first place. How did ancient humans live without art, and were they truly human? What is the range of the earliest artistic images among members of the genus Homo? What is the connection between Stone Age technologies and fine art? What are the earliest images in Siberian Stone Age art? These are the questions that will be addressed in Denis Pezhemsky's lecture, "Man Without an Image and the Figurative Art of Ancient Siberia." Speaker Denis Pezhemsky is an anthropologist and archaeologist, PhD in Biology, senior researcher at the Research Institute and Museum of Anthropology at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and lecturer at St. John the Theologian Russian Polytechnic University. A recording of a lecture as part of the educational program for the exhibition "Dreams of Siberia," which took place in Novosibirsk from November 27, 2025 to May 31, 2026.
