There are #sunbathing #spots right down the #coast but let’s start at Nea #Peramos, around 30mins away by car, with its great collection of #tavernas, #cafes and #hotels and, yes, a lively #sandy beach. A few kilometres further along, it gets even better. #Ammolofi Beach attracts sunbathers from far and wide – and with good reason. With 3km of fine sand and clear blue water, it ticks all the boxes and has #sunbeds, shade and beach #bars. In fact, it’s more like three #natural bays, so you can spread out towards the quieter ends. And finally, in the opposite direction, 45mins east of Kavala, is #Ammoglossa #Keramotis, near where boats depart throughout the day for #Thassos. This exotic curve of pine tree-fringed sand melts into the #Aegean. Known as the Blue City and as the #Mecca of #tobacco Kavala’s past and present sparkle with the first rays of dawn. The impressive complex of lead-domed structures was built in 1817 by #Mohamed Ali as a kulliye, a place for Islamic instruction, on top of an older imaret. A mixture of curved surfaces and spindly chimneys, enclosing three citrus orchards – one with a #cistern – it is a #magical place. Following centuries of mishaps and neglect, it has been renovated to become a hotel that symbolises a part of the city’s history. #Ammolofoi beach is the most popular and most beautiful beach of northern Greece. Located arround 1km from N.
