Chester, South Carolina is a small but charming town. Chester, South Carolina. The city of Chester grew as the county seat of government and was founded soon after 1785, when the county was created. Chester developed as a leading trade center for the surrounding farm communities and grew rapidly after the development of the first railroad in the area in 1851. Chester County was named for Chester, Pennsylvania by early Scots-Irish settlers who arrived in the area as early as 1755. Many belonged to the Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church. The Theater on Chester South Carolina: It was known to open as early as 1913 as the Dreamland Theatre. In the late-1920's or early-1930's it was owned by Joseph Walters who changed the name to the City Theatre. Sometime in 1935 Fred Powell bought the City Theatre, in 1937 he built a new theatre and named the City Theatre the Powell Theatre. The Chester Little Theatre has become a hot spot for paranormal activity. Witnesses have reported apparitions and eerie noises.
