Speedmaking an 18th Century Candy Stripe Dress in 8 Days
When You’re going to an event and don’t have the right outfit, what do you do? Make a new 1766 Candy Stripe Silk Dress in 8 days! This gown was made the week before going to National Trust for Scotland's Gladstone’s Land’s Drapers shop where I was hanging out in costume talking to visitors about 18th century dress and clothing! I was super lucky to find this striped silk taffeta in just the right 18th century vibe! The apron & cap are made of silk chiffon, the petticoat is the one I made for my Miss Dalrymple costume which involved another 18th century dress. I am wearing an older pair of stays I made for another project. However the stays on display on the table during the ending section will feature in a video soon! Speedmaking this dress was fun but a little stressful, especially with the bizarre weather. This was during the heatwave in Scotland, yes it was warm, I sincerely regret wearing a quilted petticoat, I did however not overheat too much in this costume despite this, probably due to my linen underlayer!
