Herod the Great built two palaces for himself on the fortified mountain of Masada between 31 and 37 BC. Joel Kramer, SourceFlix took us to see this incredible location which is situated alongside the Dead Sea in Israel. Without the historian Josephus recording the Roman siege of Masada in 73 to 74 AD, no one would have known about the mass suicide of the 960 Sicarii rebels, who chose death rather than to be captured by the Roman forces. Ancient texts are very important for archaeologists to understand an excavation site. The Bible is a vital tool used in archaeology as it is the longest historical narrative in the world! Due to the noise of the wind in this video I have edited in some music as we walk through Masada!
