Preparing for a Cozy Holiday Season ☕ Nostalgic Baking & Nutcracker Painting

November has arrived, bringing shorter, cooler days. It’s perfect time for creating a cozy atmosphere at home, enjoying delicious baking, and preparing the garden for spring (I’m trying my hand at planting crocus bulbs). It’s also the time to start getting ready for the upcoming holiday season. This year, my daughter auditioned and was selected to perform in The Nutcracker with our state’s main ballet company in Seattle. We’ve been spending a lot of time driving to rehearsals. To mark this special occasion, I decided to paint a wooden Nutcracker myself as a gift for the girls. We’re also planning to bake festive cookies that I remember fondly from my childhood—shaped like walnuts and filled with caramel. Did you have cookies like these growing up? 🎄🎄🎄 Walnut-Shaped Cookies (Oreshki) filled with caramel RECIPE 🌰 These holiday treats are a cherished memory from our childhood with Julia🎄 Ingredients: 🧈 0.4 lb (180 g) butter 🥚2 eggs 🧂0.1 lb (50g) Sugar 🫗Vanilla ✨Baking powder ☁️1 lb (450 g) Flour For the filling: 🥣 1 can Milk-based caramel (dulce de leche) Steps: 🥣Warm up unsalted butter, mix all the ingredients, and form the dough. Allow the dough to cool and rest in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes. 🥣Divide the dough into equal parts and shape it into evenly-sized balls. Tip: Use a 1-teaspoon measuring spoon to ensure all cookie shells are the same size. 🥣 Fill the mold, place your mold on the stovetop and cook the cookies until golden brown. For the filling: 🥣Use milk-based caramel (dulce de leche) or your favorite filling. Tips: Bake the cookie shells in advance—they can be made up to a month ahead and filled closer to your event.
