🐄 Moving the Herd to Graze the Hayfield Using Electric Fence 🌾⚡ With dry weather conditions slowing pasture growth, it’s time to make the most of the forage we have available. In this video, we move our Black Angus herd and calves into a hayfield for rotational grazing using temporary electric fencing. We use Gallagher reels to quickly set up and move our rotational grazing fences, making it easier to manage pasture utilization and keep fresh forage in front of the cattle. One thing we always do is build two fences—a front fence and a back fence. The back fence serves as a safety barrier in case a cow gets through the first fence and also helps prevent the herd from moving back into areas they’ve already grazed. This simple system has worked well for us and helps maintain better control of the herd while maximizing available forage during these dry conditions.
