In this experiment, 10 kilos of apples are monitored from washing to storage. It covers the selection and preparation of the fruit, chopping in the fruit mill, pressing, and the question of how many liters of apple juice can realistically be produced. It demonstrates how hygienic work improves quality and why a fixed juicing process saves time. Pasteurization takes place at 80–85°C for five minutes to reliably inactivate yeast and fungal spores. The juice is then hot-packed: either in bottles or in a bag-in-box with cardboard for storage in a cool, dark place for months or years. It provides an honest interim assessment of the time, materials, consumables, and costs – including practical tips on where the purchase of a mill and press is worthwhile. The pomace is not discarded but processed into apple cider vinegar: with sugar solution/honey, daily stirring, controlled fermentation, straining, aging, and mother of vinegar. This creates a second product from the harvest for the pantry. The process shows how self-care starts small and gradually becomes routine.
