THE TRIFFIDS (1st John Peel Session 1984)

'The Triffids', a seminal Australian alternative rock and pop band, formed in Perth in Western Australia in May 1978 with David McComb as singer-songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist and keyboardist. They achieved negligible success in Australia, but greater success in the UK and in Scandinavia in the 1980s before disbanding in 1989. They did three sessions for John Peel and this was the first. It was recorded on 6th November and first transmitted on 13th November 1984. A complete recording of the show has yet to come to light. However, the session was repeated several times and this recording is taken from the 1st repeat on 4th December 1984. The tracks are: 'Monkey On My Back', 'Field Of Glass' and 'Bright Lights Big City'. These recordings were released as a 12”, 45RPM E.P. In 1985. Line-up was: Alsy MacDonald (Drums, Backing Vocals), Daubney Carshott (Electric Bass), Robert McComb (Electric Guitar, Drums, Backing Vocals), Jill Birt (Keyboards) and David McComb (Lead Vocals, Electric Guitar). All songs written by David McComb. These session was produced by Mark Radcliffe, engineered by Mike Robinson and was recorded at BBC Maida Vale (Studio 5).
