SMOKEY ROBINSON'S "BLACK AMERICAN" POEM ANIMATED SHORT FILM

Iconic song writer, singer and Activist Smokey Robinson gives his take on what Black American means to him through his original poem BLACK AMERICAN that he performs. The poem delves into his observation of the origin of the title and discusses the process of giving Black people in America titles on who they are. The thought-provoking poem touches some sensitive areas on the relationship of the history of the continent of Africa, African people and Black Americans. The animated film is Executive Produced by Smokey Robinson, Mark Scheinberg and award winning artist, cartoonist, filmmaker Joe Young. Mr. Young also directs the film. The short film is animated and has unique, colorful, whimsical visual placeholders with different styles of illustrations, mixing a caricature style of Smokey and a more realistic Marvel style drawing for the background. www.joeyoung.org
