Belarus protest: Thousands march through Minsk protesting re-election of Lukashenko

Thousands of Belarus protesters defiantly marched through an industrial neighbourhood in southeast Minsk, Belarus, today as they demanded the resignation of their leader of 26 years President Alexander Lukashenko. Some demonstrators chanted 'strike!' while others carried the historical white and red flag of Belarus as they protested against the latest election results despite threats by police this week to use lethal force from now on 'if necessary'. The scenes comes after Lukashenko, who has ruled in authoritarian fashion since 1994, won the latest election on August 9 with 80 per cent of the votes.
