2) The Pre-Socratics: Xenophanes & Heraclitus

This is a video lecture from PHI 341, History of Ancient Philosophy. This course is taught at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. If you are interested in more courses (including through our online degree program) please check out the following websites: https://philosophy.uncg.edu/ https://philosophy.uncg.edu/academic-... https://online.uncg.edu/ In this session, we continue our discussion of the so-called "pre-Socratic" philosophers, focusing on Xenophanes and Heraclitus. Though seemingly very different, with Xenophanes's main contributions to the conversation focusing on the nature of God/gods and Heraclitus on the nature of change, both seem to offer a perspective that is somewhat skeptical about the ability of human minds to fully comprehend reality.
