Representing My Sicilian Roots at the Caccamo Sausage Festival

I'm heading to the famous Sagra Della Salsiccia in Caccamo, Sicily—an event that’s like a harvest festival in the U.S., celebrating the local wine, olive harvest, and of course, the art of making sausage. People from all over Sicily flock to this festival, but this year, it’s extra special for me. I was honored to be asked by the town genealogist to represent one of Sicily’s "Lost Ones" in the festival’s parade. As a descendant of Sicilians who left for better opportunities in the early 1900s, this invitation struck a deep chord. While I may be considered an outsider today, my ancestors came from this very town. My journey toward dual citizenship has, in a way, brought me back to where it all started. In this episode, I’ll take you through my preparation for the parade, including the costume I’ll be wearing and the personal reason I chose it. I also reflect on my ongoing struggles with my dual citizenship process and push myself to let go of fear and embrace the experience—no matter how awkward I feel.
