Fugue Subjects and Answers || Imitative Counterpoint 3

In this video we break down the ways in which a fugue subject can be paired with an answer in traditional Western counterpoint, using examples by Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger. There are two basic kinds of fugal answers: real answers, which are formed by an exact transposition of the fugue subject; and tonal answers, which are not exact transpositions of the subject for at least one of three reasons discussed in the video.
