In this video I show you how to replace the generator on a Coleman Exponent Model 229 lantern. Also, I'll be replacing the mantle. My problem was the lantern's brightness would not adjust when I moved the knob to the 12 0'clock position. To diagnose the problem I took it apart to check the generator, which was missing the cleaning wire. I found a website, Old Coleman Parts, that had the generator. Replacing it resolved the problem that I had. But, in the process I damaged the mantle, so I replaced that as well with a # 20 mantle. The lantern is now good as new. It doesn't take a lot to repair Coleman lanterns and stoves. It's a great product that is so useful for camping, power outages, and natural emergencies.
