Besides worshiping their gods, they also worshiped sacred places which they called Huacas. These Huacas were located throughout the Inca empire -- mountain tops, caves, rivers and springs. Also, as their knowledge and interpretation of the cosmos allowed, the Andean people considered the Milky Way a celestial river and therefore sacred. For thousands of years it was the source of many of their myths and legends.
