#Madrid #hospital #12deoctubre #communityofmadrid #publichealthcare New and final visit, for now, to the completed construction of the new 12 de Octubre Hospital building in Madrid. I've finally been able to see the interior after so many months of waiting, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I made this visit because I saw news reports indicating that there was already activity inside, but I wasn't sure since there hadn't been any official opening or news confirming it. I decided to go on Sunday morning to see if I'd get lucky after seeing news reports that all the pediatric patients had been transferred. Well, the activity in this new building is, apparently, fully operational and normal. I visited sections A, B, C, and D, and I didn't go to section E because I would have had to pass through an area where I'm not sure if they would have let me in. It's not really relevant, though, because the five sections of the new building are very similar to each other. Section A is the northernmost, and Section E is closest to the old residence. As I mentioned, activity is normal; there are many patients in the rooms (almost all of them single occupancy) and a lot of people in the waiting rooms. There are common areas on every floor, stairs and elevators, places to get refreshments, and more. Overall, it feels like a very modern hospital, atypical for a public healthcare facility. A great step forward for patients, without a doubt. And it's not hard to get lost, to be honest. I'm not saying anything is poorly designed, but it really is quite a large building. It has nine floors above ground, and both its width and length are daunting when you walk around. I also want to highlight the views from the upper floors, especially from Module A, because you can see the entire southern, eastern, and northern areas of Madrid. Further down, on the fourth floor, there are entrances to some garden areas, but I believe they are only for hospital patients. There are also other seemingly common areas, but I don't even know where the entrances are, or if non-patients can access them. Ultimately, these buildings are designed with the patients and hospital staff in mind, primarily. To sum it up, I think the result is spectacular. And we still have the major project at La Paz Hospital, which I don't think will be long before it starts. They'll also be giving the Ramón y Cajal Hospital a facelift, something I'll be able to follow as they progress with the Oria Innovation Campus. Happy Monday!
