The issue of workplace harassment has risen to prominence in recent days following several cases of harassment within the Judiciary, leading all employee unions to strike on Monday, December 4th, and hold a demonstration in front of the Piria Palace. The unions demanded the removal of Marcelo Pesce, the Director of Administrative Services for the Judiciary, who had received numerous complaints of workplace harassment after the suicide of an employee attributed to the mistreatment he suffered. Following complaints filed by thirty employees, the Supreme Court of Justice had ordered an administrative investigation. However, Pesce resigned before the proceedings were completed. Uruguay lacks specific legislation to prevent and punish workplace harassment, although several bills are currently under consideration in Parliament. What are the implications of this legal vacuum?
