À Conversa com António Oliveira e Francisco Batista

Experts and long-time residents say that what is grown by the sea has a different flavor and taste. Whether it's cabbage or other foods, they take on a different flavor with the sea air and the climate of places like Ponta, which kisses the sea, and Ilhéu do Topo, with Terceira Island in the background. António Oliveira emigrated to California at the age of 36. He took his six children and US$600 with him. In 1986, upon arriving in the land of Uncle Sam, he never lacked the resilience, hard work, and strength that characterize the Azorean people. We spoke with this man from São Jorge who returned to his homeland a few years ago and prefers to spend his days by the sea, where he opened the treasure chest of memories from other times. Francisco Batista is one of his friends, helping him maintain this space, cultivated and worked with the sweat of a life dedicated to the countryside and rural life, on a picturesque Ponta do Topo, like so many others that characterize the island. In conversation with António Oliveira and Francisco Batista, a different São Martinho — full of vivid memories and recollections of their time as emigrants on the island of São Jorge. #sãojorgeisland #saojorgeisland #azores #rádioilheu #açores #portugal #followus #subscribe #share #support www.radioilheu.pt
