Rivian R2 Performance Launch Edition: Demo Drive in Boise, ID!

Today (6/10/26) I was lucky to be one of the first "normal" humans to drive Rivian's latest EV, the R2 Performance (Launch Edition), featuring over 600 HP and lb-ft of torque, with the 20 inch All Terrain wheel/tire combo. This car did NOT disappoint. While we only had a few minutes per demo drive, several impressions were made. Reviewers are generally raving about this, and after today, I can understand why. It should be a perfect vehicle for how we like to play out here in the Intermountain West. Rivian retained a ton of great qualities and character in this vehicle, while achieving a price tens of thousands of dollars below their flagship vehicles. To my knowledge, Rivian have not shared the precise number of reservation holders, but they are rumored to be in the low hundreds of thousands. With only 20-25k of these vehicles planned for production, demand should remain high for the foreseeable future. These demo drives and published reviews are not likely to do anything to dampen enthusiasm - the opposite may occur! I'm certainly going to be hanging on to my (lowly) reservation!
