Ammachikottaram, Kuttikanam | A Forgotten Piece of Kerala’s History On our way back from Meghamalai, we happened to stop at Kuttikanam. That’s when we came to know about Ammachikottaram, a historic residence associated with the Travancore royal family. This was my first visit here, and honestly, it was both fascinating and heartbreaking. The place has an old-world charm and a mysterious atmosphere, especially with the dense greenery surrounding it. But at the same time, it feels neglected. Broken roofs, abandoned rooms, and the lack of maintenance raise questions about how much longer this beautiful heritage structure can survive. Although it’s a private property, I personally feel that with proper restoration, this place could once again showcase the rich history it represents. If you’re travelling through Kuttikanam, I would definitely recommend stopping by and experiencing this place for yourself.
