Danjong, the sixth king of Joseon, ascended the throne at the tender age of just 12 following the sudden death of King Munjong. However, taking advantage of the weakened royal authority, his ambitious uncle, Grand Prince Suyang, began to reveal his dark intentions for the throne. Ultimately, Grand Prince Suyang instigated the Coup of Gyeyu, eliminating the ministers who supported Danjong to seize power. He then exiled his nephew, Danjong, to Yeongwol and ascended the throne himself.
