I Went Fluke Fishing So You Don't Have To! NYS Fluke Opening Day

Today, May 4, 2026, marked opening day for fluke (summer flounder) in New York State and, as the title suggests, I went fluke fishing so you don't have to. To put this in more perspective, we had an incredibly cold winter here in the Northeast and Eastern Long Island, where I'm based, is still absolutely frigid. Water temps are only in the low 50s and on this day, we had a terrible wind, wind chills in the 30s and wind against tide. This video chronicles my struggles on opening day which were very real, but sprinkled in with mostly bad news were some optimistic signs including my first fluke of the season.
