The Affair That Ended Frank Sinatra's Marriage
There are many women that Frank Sinatra loved during his lifetime, though few of his relationships were more volatile and memorable than his extramarital affair with, and subsequent marriage to, actress Ava Gardner. Frank was already an established star when Ava came on the scene, and Ava’s first impression of Frank was a negative one. That year, the two became entangled in a passionate love affair, and it eventually became too big of a thing for the couple to keep quiet. First, it was friends that became aware of the couple’s relationship, and then it was the tabloids. In 1950, a picture of Frank and Ava together was leaked to the presses. Shortly after this event, Frank and his first wife were separated. Frank’s first wife granted him a divorce in 1951, and he married Ava later that same year. However, Frank’s marriage to Ava was never quite as successful as the two may have been hoping. Both Frank and Ava were incredibly volatile and emotional people, and both were people that had a hard time remaining faithful. Frank and Ava divorced in 1957, though they never forgot about each other. Frank sent Ava a bouquet of flowers every year following their divorce, up until her death in 1990. Frank remarried twice after divorcing Ava and stayed with his fourth wife until his death in 1998. Join Facts Verse as we explore the affair that ended Frank Sinatra’s marriage.
