(Life jacket, leash for SUP on a lake, quick-release leash for rivers, helmet for whitewater, dry suit, etc.) 2.) Do I realistically assess my abilities? Am I healthy and fit? 3.) Do my technique and fitness meet the requirements? 4.) Do I know the safety and rescue techniques in case of capsizing? 5.) Have I carefully planned the trip? (Weather, water level, length, potential hazards) 6.) Am I prepared for incidents and able to abort the trip if necessary? 7.) Am I experienced enough to paddle solo? 8.) Do I have enough food and drink with me? 9.) Do I have appropriate spare clothing and equipment for the time of year? ⚠️ Safety in canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) is multifaceted.
