The World’s Northernmost Metro System | Helsinki Metro (Helsingin Metro) 🚇🇫🇮| Urban Transport #36

This video will describe the metro system of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is made up of 1 trunk route with 2 branches, and takes a crucial role in the public transport in the west-east axis of the city. The metro is also connecting the city of Espoo with Helsinki. In 2022, an extension to Kivenlahti, in the west of Espoo was opened, together with a second depot. Trains used are the M100 (Valmet / Strömberg), M200 (Bombardier) and M300 (CAF). The metros are incredibly wide, as a result of their permitting loading gauge, as the rail gauge is 1522 mm. Fun fact is that it is the northernmost metro system in the world, located fully above 60 degrees north.
