Gil Rud served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1995. He flew combat missions in Vietnam, including flying cover for the evacuation of Saigon in 1975, was the Flight Leader (Boss) of the Blue Angels Demonstration Team, served as the commanding officer on the aircraft carrier the "USS Constellation" and later worked for Boeing and was one of the key people who helped develop the F-18 Super Hornet.
