I LOVE the community I have gathered here and I love spending my time reading every comment on the videos. Thank you for all of your love and support, let’s get it. Man Vs Self: Of course, before the start of the novel, Fang Yuan isn’t the person we know him to be. Fang Yuan’s untold tale, his original journey from going from righteous to demonic is his own battle of his personal values. I think one of the beautiful parts of this novel is the fact that we don’t even need to understand the details of his past. What could possibly drive someone to such anti societal behavior? Clearly hypocrasy, betrayl, and tragedy. Without knowing much, the readers of Reverend Insanity understand intrinsically that Fang Yuan has had a difficult journey and that his unemotional, stable, behavior, unbiased by neither success nor failure, can only be achieved by someone who has confronted themselves, and steeled their resolve. Clearly this is demonstrated by the chapter titled “Fang Yuan’s Perseverance,” as he is discovered to be the second person to ever traverse the reverse flow river, but we didn’t even need this chapter to understand him. The reason why this chapter is satisfying, is because from the beginning, we already knew the magnitude of his life experiences, and only by chapter 1285 having some of that past revealed to us is satisfying because we are already big fans and knew his history had to have reflected what was written and fleshed out later. The novel didn’t need to state it, it held off on developing concrete situations of his past until this far into the novel purely as a moment of fan service. The Man Vs Self journey is implied within the novel, by his actions and behavior, not something that has been explicitly told. Man Vs No God: This conflict is both easy, and also difficult to discuss. Ultimately, despite the venerables being the most powerful existence of their era, they are not omnipotent. Giant Sun immortal venerable still had to have Long Hair Ancestor refine Gu for him. Sure they Venerables have no equals when it comes to threat level, but are they Gods? In the end, they are killed off intentionally by heavens will. The fact that Fang Yuan is fighting against heaven’s will symbolizes his fight against the essence of what prevents Gods from existing in the first place. Before his cognizant of heaven’s will, he is simply fighting the world. Nature itself. But by Fang Yuan plotting against Heaven’s will, whose nature is to replenish deficits and cut down surplus, Fang Yuan is conflicting with a semi-living entity that represents the nonexistence of gods. Fang Yuan fighting against heaven’s will, and refining the heavens themselves is his response that if there is no god, he will become one. Man Vs Technology: Hot Take: Gu, Immortal Killer Moves, and Gu Formations are all technology at work. I think Fang Yuan’s fight against technology is best represented with the Zombie Revival Arc. So much of that arc was focused on what it means to be an immortal zombie, what are the mechanics of true life versus just being undead, and learning about existing methods to revive from the state of being undead. the arc also explores ways to mitigate the drawbacks of being an immortal zombie. Seemingly, the inability to feel pain would be a perk of technology, but losing your situational awareness because you can’t feel your backside being attacked is an obvious drawback.
