On June 22, 1988, 21-year-old University of New Mexico student Althea Oakeley was the first. While walking home from a college party, Althea was stabbed multiple times and left for dead. September 9, 1988, 13-year-old middle school student was shot in the back of the head while walking with a friend on the side of the road. And on July 16, 1989, 18-year-old Kaitlyn Arquette was shot while driving her car. She then crashed into a light pole... She died the following day... All three cases would go cold for over 30 years... In July of 2020, a 53-year-old Paul Apodaca entered the University of New Mexico Police Department with a story to tell... This is the No BS Police Interrogation of Paul Apodaca. (SPOILERS BELOW) To avoid a first-degree murder trial, Paul Apodaca signed a plea agreement. On January 25, 2024, he pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder. At 62-years-old Apodaca was sentenced to 45 years in prison, and will spend the rest of his natural life behind bars.
