Surfski Downwind Analysis - Go Diagonal!
We often have small to medium conditions where a fast shallow swell combines with slow wind waves. The real energy lies in the fast swell but it's not steep enough to surf directly. Periodically the swell and wind waves combine so one can "get on it" but then they separate and a stall results. The solution is to go diagonal and weave in&out of the fast stuff thereby keeping a much steadier speed. The first section shows an attempt to catch the well going straight down. It succeeds at first but then fails when the swell & wind wave overlap ends. The second section plays the clip in reverse, which makes it easier to see the swell. The third clip starts out the same as the first, but then switches to a diagonal strategy which allows the paddler to see the swell and weave in&out. 00:00 title 00:04 fail to catch the swell 00:29 clip in reverse 01:01 go diagonal
