Isochimica, una generazione uccisa dall'amianto: "Il 90% di noi è malato"

In the 1980s, 3,000 Italian State Railways train carriages were taken to the Isochimica factory in Avellino to remove the asbestos inside. Breathing in just one asbestos fiber can cause lung cancer. The approximately 300 Isochimica workers labored for years without protective equipment amidst thousands of tons of asbestos, working bare-handed, without overalls, or masks. Today, 90% of Isochimica workers suffer from lung disease, the factory is under seizure, and a trial is underway against the entrepreneur, Elio Graziano, who owns the plant. In front of Fanpage cameras, Isochimica workers tell us about the silent massacre, showing us where they worked, and the conditions under which they came into contact with asbestos. Thanks to Rossella Fierro's photos, kindly provided by the newspaper "Il Ciriaco" (http://www.ilciriaco.it/), we are able to show what was inside the factory before the seizure and how the workers buried the asbestos in a pit dug inside the plant.
