Chicken Coop Tour

Showing y'all a tour of our main chicken coop area. Our main coop is 12x18 feet, we built it ourselves in 2018. The concrete slab that it is on was already on our land when we purchased it (it used to be an auto repair building). We have had chickens almost 10 years, our oldest hen from our original flock of 3 turns 10 this April 2024! We have about 70 chickens in our main coop (we have 4 other coops as well!), and 2 turkeys. We have had 100 birds in there and it still doesnt feel crowded. The geese (2) and ducks (5) have their own coop but mainly sleep in the pool - LOL! We have 8 jumbo coturnix quail currently in the 2x8' quail hutch that we designed and built. All the windows, front door, and metal nest boxes are from our favorite salvage yard, Second Use Building Materials in Seattle. In addition to the feed room area, we have two sides. The bantam side was created for my small birds, but I have found that they mix just fine with the standard size birds. In the summer I will convert the bantam side to a nursery for broody mamas and their chicks. Our chicken yard is about 1/4 acre with 6' chain-link fence. We added electric wire about 48" up the fence and have had no more bobcats climbing it or other critters. We still deal with aerial predators from time to time, but the addition of the Shelter Logic cover gives the chickens another safe space to hide. The yard also includes a section of woods that the chickens love to scratch around. Please let me know if you have any questions about the building, or equipment.
