The Sasinbi consists of a front and a rear stele. The rear stele was carved in 168, the first year of Jianying, and the front stele the following year. The stele measures 231cm in height and 112cm in width. The inscription on the front stele contains a tribute to the Minister of the Imperial Court, which includes an inscription praising Confucius. It commemorates the grand ancestral rites held at the Confucius Temple by Sasin, the prime minister of Lu. It is currently housed in the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province, China. The Sasinbi features a square and majestic calligraphy, and is considered the finest among Han Dynasty steles. The brush strokes are reversed, creating a striking harmony of bone, sinew, blood, and flesh. It is considered a masterpiece of Han art, showcasing the utmost in neutrality and beauty. ** To truly begin learning clerical script, I recommend starting with the Sasinbi, then the Eulyeongbi and Yegibi, and then studying various clerical script collections, including the Jangcheonbi, the Seonwoo Hwangbi, the Seokmunsong, and the Seohyeopsong.
