RAW VIDEO: MOUNT ST. HELENS. MAY 18TH, 1980. DAY OF THE ERUPTION

MAY 18TH, 1980 Day of the eruption KGW crews fly by helicopter up the Toutle river valley. They document the near-total destruction of the area along the river, watching as entire houses are swept into the raging torrent unleashed by the sudden melting of glaciers and the snowpack. At the end of the video are some of the first close-up views of the roiling clouds of ash and stream filing the sky as the eruption of Mount St. Helens was in full force.
