We Found a Serious Problem With Our Off-Grid Cabin

Off-grid cabin foundation repair, wind erosion damage, and generator troubleshooting on our Arizona high desert ranch. Full-time RVers, we return to D&H Crimson Sky Ranch four months a year to maintain and build out our off-grid property — and this week we found a serious structural problem with our off-grid cabin we almost missed entirely. High desert wind had been slowly eroding the sand beneath our cabin support system, putting the entire foundation at risk of failure. With only three weeks left before we head back out on the road in our RV, fixing this off-grid cabin foundation issue became our number one priority. In this episode we walk you through the full off-grid cabin repair — what caused it, how we diagnosed it, and exactly how we fixed it. After months of high desert wind slowly eroding the sand away from our cabin's support system, we discovered the foundation was at risk of failure. With only three weeks left before we head back out on the road, we had to find a solution fast. In this episode, we walk you through exactly what we found, why it happened, and how we fixed it — or at least how we hope we fixed it. Because here's the thing about maintaining an off-grid property when you're only there part of the year: The land doesn't wait for you. The wind keeps blowing. The sand keeps shifting. And sometimes you catch it in time. Sometimes you almost don't. This week also brought another challenge — our generator decided it didn't want to cooperate. We walk through the troubleshooting process and where we landed. Spoiler: that one isn't fully resolved yet. Because that's what this life actually looks like. Not every problem gets solved in a week. Some of them follow you into the next one. But you keep going. You fix what you can. You leave it better than you found it. And you hit the road again.
