The Marimba Children of Education Africa at Shaka Zulu London 16th October 2013
http://www.educationafrica.com/educat... A group of children, who benefit from the work of the Education Africa charity, visited London and treated us to a performance of Marimba playing (like a xylophone but with a broader and lower tone!). Stevie Ray's Sessions partner venue 'Shaka Zulu' is very proud to be involved with Friends of Education Africa, supporting the amazing work being carried out right now across Africa. "The charity helps 'the poorest of the poor' and strives to bring about real, positive change, through education, to the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people. "Tens of thousands of people have been given a 'lift up' so far and the aim is to reach tens of thousands more!" - says Roger Payne, owner of Shaka Zulu. Roger has visited sites in South Africa that have directly benefitted from the work started by humanitarian James Urdang over 27 years ago. Whether it's building an academy, supporting local bicycle schemes so that kids can actually get to school; or the building of pre-schools in the townships, everything we have seen is having an amazing effect on the lives of the children and their families. Shaka Zulu have supported Education Africa as their nominated charity since we opened in August 2010. On the evening Stevie Ray's Sessions presented a Session with Sam Tshabalala. Sam is one of South Africa's most important composers and the Sam Tshabalala Quartet performed an acoustic session afterwards.
