Fandango: Peggy Murray, historical dancer

NYS Baroque and Pegasus Early Music present Fandango based on Murcia Fandango Peggy Murray, historical dancer Deborah Fox and Michael Leopold, guitars We know little about the early fandango dance type. Accounts by observers lead us believe that it originated in the theater and these dances had dramatic and unexpected starts and stops. While our version borrows from European theatrical ideas, later fandangos would become an important part of Bolero and Flamenco dancing in Spain, and various folkloric dances in the Americas. (PM)
