How Telescope are tested at SPIE Astro 2026

How do manufacturers test whether telescope optics actually perform as designed? At SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation 2026, Yanjun Ma from Phasics demonstrates one of the company’s optical metrology setups for testing and validating telescope optics. The system uses wavefront sensing to measure optical aberrations, evaluate image quality, and help verify that a telescope is correctly aligned. Phasics’ testing technology can also provide measurements such as wavefront error, modulation transfer function, and point spread function, allowing engineers to compare a finished optical system against its intended design. This provides a fascinating look behind the scenes at how professional telescope optics are aligned, qualified, and validated before they are installed in an observatory or scientific instrument. Recorded at SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation 2026 in Copenhagen. #TelescopeOptics #OpticalTesting #SPIEAstro2026 Get your Cosmic Curiosity Merch or Cosmic Field Guide here: 👉 https://deepspacebooks.com/ Join this channel to get access to perks:    / @cosmic_curiosity   #astrophotography #tutorial #cosmiccuriosity *** SOCOAL LINKS *** Got questions or just want to chat?
