📑 Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes). It occurs due to the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is more closely associated with an imbalance of lipids in the body (caused by obesity) and also with decreased glucose uptake by the body.
