We've probably done this for several rounds already, and if you keep doing the same thing all the time, there's no chance you'll get a different result, certainly not a better one." 4. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Zevik Zweigi, Deputy mayor of Kiryat Shmona "And I turn to (US president) Donald Trump, and I want to tell him that there was never for a moment a ceasefire here. And I am sure that if this were happening in one of his states, it would not be overlooked, and I know how he would act. Therefore, I want him to give us the independence to act as we know, or as we think is right for the residents and citizens of the State of Israel and for the future of the entire north here." 6. I'm about to study here in the area, and they tell us time and time again that there is a ceasefire, but we keep seeing that it doesn't hold and doesn't exist. Like a ceasefire here means nothing." 10. Mid of people at mall 11. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Shira Edi, resident of Kiryat Shmona: "It pains me that we are residents of the north and we don't have... like, many of us, I'm like 18 years old and I don't feel that I have a future here, I don't feel that I will build my future here in because of security (concerns), and this year it also created difficulties in education. Also security-wise, businesses here are collapsing, people here are traumatized, and I think this ceasefire is not really a solution, because it was done in the past and it will be done now, and in the end, people don't really feel that they live under security." ASSOCIATED PRESS Northern Israel - 5 June 2026 12. Zoom in from northern Israel to plume of smoke rising from southern Lebanon STORYLINE: Some residents of northern Israel on Friday expressed doubts over the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. The agreement, announced in a joint statement by the U.S., Israel and Lebanon Wednesday, comes after Israeli forces made their deepest incursion into Lebanon in more than a quarter century. Israel’s air force struck different parts of southern Lebanon on Friday as the military issued evacuation warnings for nine villages, including one that has been spared much of the destruction and was sheltering thousands of people displaced by the three-month war. Six people were killed, Lebanon's state news agency reported. The warnings forced hundreds of families to flee the village of Anqoun and the area of Aarnaya, on the edge of the predominantly Christian village of Maghdoucheh, near the southern port city of Sidon. A fellow resident said he does not trust that the Lebanese army has the power to control Hezbollah. For 18-year-old Shira Edi, there is no future in northern Israel.
