We, You, They: Guide to Tagalog Personal Pronouns (E22)
This is part 2 of the discussion on Group 2 personal pronouns. Tagalog personal pronouns are classified into three main groups or categories. Depending on what resource material you read, or which teacher you listen to, they come in a variety of group names. But for simplicity’s sake, in this channel, I will call them GROUP 1, GROUP 2 and GROUP 3. Other languages have different groupings. So, in that sense, Tagalog personal pronouns will be different from your native language. In this video, we will focus the discussion on understanding how to use the plural set of pronouns under group 2. And these are: • Tayo, “we” that includes the listener • Kami, “we” that excludes the listener • Kayo, “you” or “you all” and • Sila, “they” This video will introduce new sentence patterns that will make use of these personal pronouns. These patterns will mirror the two basic sentence structures in Tagalog: • Subject + Predicate • Predicate + Subject CHECK OUT PREVIOUS VIDEOS Converting Adjectives into the plural form / lesson on reduplication • Forming Our First Tagalog Sentence (E13) TIME STAMPS 00:00 Intro 00:55 What are personal pronouns? 01:13 Tagalog personal pronouns 02:38 Group 1 pronouns 03:24 Tayo and Kami 04:12 Two basic sentence structures 05:00 Sentence pattern using Tayo 05:20 Adjectives in the plural form 05:38 Verbs as predicate 05:53 Proper nouns as predicate 06:27 Sentence pattern using Kami 06:41 Common nouns as predicate 07:16 Sentence pattern using Kayo 07:48 Sentence pattern using Sila 08:21 Predicate-Subject structure 09:18 Predicate-Subject structure with Tayo 09:50 Predicate-Subject structure with Kami 10:20 Predicate-Subject structure with Kayo 10:47 Predicate-Subject structure with Sila 11:19 Which sentence structure to use? 11:48 Next video: interrogative sentences There is a ton of reasons to start learning Tagalog now!
