If he meant that folks who just put in a prompt and ask AI to deliver a song without years of experience and decades of crafting lyrics, then I get it. AI can't possibly do what we songwriters have worked so hard at for decades-earning small royalty checks for a little bit of airplay or commissioned songs for commercials and organizations. But that is not the message that was communicated. The message to all of us out here, who have never made a small fortune with songwriting and publishing, producer, engineer and musician points, and millions of followers on Youtube is that if you use AI, then what you deliver is not music. I personally have spent in the range of $40-$50k in records, singles and demos since 2000 right here in Nashville. I've recouped about $15k. So when an opportunity comes along (to an educator like myself on a mostly fixed income) to use technology to produce better sounding demos at home than I could ever produce myself, why wouldn't I take advantage of that? When I saw that thumbnail come through this week, I told my wife, "I have to speak up on behalf of all the songwriters like myself because some have lost touch with the reality that it is almost impossible for your average songwriter to produce a decent sounding demo in this day and age." She should know-she's sacrificed everything for me to chase my dreams for the 26 years that she's been married to me. That is why I made this video.
