The festival commemorates the meeting of Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami and Sri Nityananda Prabhu for the first time in a village named Panihati near Kolkata in West Bengal. This festival is also known as Danda Mahotsava (the Festival of Punishment). It is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the bright moon in the month of Jyeshta (May-June). To this day, pilgrims visit Panihati to celebrate the Chida-dahi festival. The live telecast of the Panihati Chida Dahi Utsav will be an opportunity for devotees all over the world to witness this sacred festival. The telecast will begin with a Pallaki Utsav, in which the deities of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga will be taken out in a procession through the streets of Panihati. The procession will be followed by an Abhishekam, in which the deities will be bathed in milk, yogurt, and other offerings. The telecast will conclude with a Naukavihar, in which the deities will be taken on a boat ride on the Ganges River. The Panihati Chida Dahi Utsav is a time for devotees to come together in celebration of their faith. The live telecast of the festival will allow devotees from all over the world to participate in this joyous occasion. Here is a brief story about the Panihati pastime that happened years ago: Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami was a great devotee of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He was once travelling to Puri when he stopped in Panihati. While he was there, he met Sri Nityananda Prabhu for the first time. Sri Nityananda Prabhu was a great Vaishnava saint who was known for his playful and ecstatic nature. When he saw Sri Raghunatha dasa Gosvami, he immediately began to tease him. He told Sri Raghunatha dasa Gosvami that he was too serious and that he needed to learn to have more fun. Sri Raghunatha dasa Gosvami was initially offended by Sri Nityananda Prabhu's teasing, but he eventually realized that Sri Nityananda Prabhu was just trying to help him. He began to relax and enjoy himself, and he soon became one of Sri Nityananda Prabhu's closest disciples. The Panihati pastime is a reminder that we should all learn to have fun and enjoy life.
