OBJECT LESSON About The Resurrection

Romans 8:35, 37 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (NIV) Webster’s dictionary says the word “conquerors” means, "one who overcomes by gaining control." Have you ever felt powerless and like your life was out of control? The fact is, you can’t control your circumstances, but you can choose to control how you respond to them. You can either choose to work out your problems on your own or you can choose to trust God to conquer your problems. If you’ll choose to put your life in God's hands and rely on his power, nothing can overpower your life. That's the message of Easter! No matter how dark the situation might look, God can turn it around. No situation is hopeless. That’s because God loves to turn crucifixions into resurrections. I’d like to illustrate that for you. (Prepare in advance a separate yet identical set of envelopes and already have them inside the large envelope) Today I brought with me a dollar that I want you to think of as Jesus. (Better yet, ask a volunteer if you could borrow their dollar) The Bible says after Jesus was crucified some women prepared his body for burial by putting him in grave clothes. So, I'm going to put the dollar in an envelope and then put some duct tape on the outside to show how he was wrapped up (Clothes). Then the Bible says the body of Jesus was placed inside a tomb. (Tomb) So, I’m now going to put the dollar inside the envelope into another envelope and fold it up. Then after Jesus was laid inside the tomb, the Bible says they rolled a very large stone in front of the entrance to seal it. (Stone) So, I’m going to put the dollar that’s now inside two envelopes inside another envelope and close it up. Then the Bible says the Romans wanted to make sure that no one could ever steal the body of Jesus so they put guards out in front of the tomb. So, I’m going to put the dollar that’s now inside three envelopes inside another envelope labeled “Guards”. But the Bible says on the first day of the week as the sun was coming up there was an earthquake and an angel descended from heaven and rolled the stone away and when the guards saw the angel some fainted and ran away. (Open “Guards” envelope and pull out “Stone” envelope without the dollar!) Then the Bible says the angel told the women who had come to the tomb to get the other disciples. (Pull out “Tomb” envelope) When the disciples came to the tomb they went inside and saw his grave clothes inside but Jesus was not there because he had risen from the dead! (Remove final envelope “Clothes” and tear it apart to show that the dollar is gone) The same power that enabled Jesus Christ to rise from the dead, can empower you to rise above your problems! If Jesus can conquer death, he can certainly conquer any problem you experience in life!
