Matthew 5:23-24 A Reason To Leave Church

In times gone by, people went to their ‘local’ church. We still use that term today, but it means something different. Back in the day, the local church was within walking distance – at the most, a few miles from the homes of those who attended. You were born in a church, got married in that church, and your funeral was held at that church. Today, we are much more mobile as a society, and people regularly move from one region of the country to another. In addition, we can drive much longer distances to attend a church that seems like ‘home’. But expanding our travel time also expands our choices of church. And it is not uncommon for people to move from one church to another. Most of us probably know this is unhealthy, yet it happens often. Jesus tells us when we should leave a church. The reason may not be one you’ve ever thought of or responded to, but it is a high enough priority that Jesus takes time in His great sermon to instruct us on leaving church!
