CHANI: Orang Dengan HIV Berhak Menikah Dan Memiliki Anak

For Ida Farida, or Chani (35), as she is affectionately known, the world seemed beautiful at the time. She was almost one step away from becoming a Singaporean citizen, after marrying a local man she had met in Surabaya, the City of Heroes, many years earlier. Three years later, Chani set her heart on applying for permanent residency in Singapore. However, her dreams were shattered when she learned her application was rejected due to her HIV infection. A medical check-up is a requirement, and in 2012, the Singaporean government refused to accept citizens of Singapore for people living with HIV (PLHIV). This marked a turning point for Chani, who decided to investigate HIV treatment. In 2015, when Chani received her divorce certificate, she returned to Jakarta. Despite her HIV status, Chani continued to develop as a person. Chani not only continues to develop in her career, she even found her true love when she married Antonio (37 years old) — a fellow PLHIV whom she met in 2017. They decided to get married on December 1, 2017, which also happened to be World HIV and AIDS Day. Together with Antonio, they fight together against discrimination against PLHIV and provide education about what HIV and AIDS really are.
