Few today question the benefits of breastfeeding. But there's a kind of invisible barrier around the age of one, after which "that child is too old to breastfeed." It's something mothers hear from family members, friends, and, worse still, from healthcare professionals. Some claim that breastfeeding beyond the age of x months (each one gives a number) will cause trauma in the child, dependency, malnutrition, cavities, and a whole host of physical and emotional catastrophes. How true is any of this? Today I'm going to talk about the psychological effects that prolonged breastfeeding can have. And I'm going to do so based exclusively on scientific evidence.
