On June 28, 1950, just three days after Kim Il-sung's invasion, an atrocity unparalleled in the annals of warfare was committed in the heart of Seoul. Hundreds of wounded South Korean soldiers, who should have been protected under the Geneva Conventions, were massacred. North Korean soldiers stormed Seoul National University Hospital, the country's premier general hospital, and indiscriminately murdered wounded South Korean soldiers and civilian patients. In March 2025, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission declared this incident a massacre perpetrated by the North Korean regime, announcing an estimated 1,000 victims and 330 confirmed victims. However, this horrific incident remains surprisingly unknown to the South Korean public.
