Before she passed away, Hazrat Fatima saw a funeral procession through her window. And what she saw so shocked her that she changed her last will and testament. She requested to be buried at night. No one would know. Only her closest relatives would be present. And a first in Islamic history would occur. But what did she see? A coffin? A ceremony? No... She saw something much deeper. And this story you will learn today may reveal a truth you have never considered. The daughter of the Prophet, the mistress of the women of Paradise, at eighteen years old... She carried a worry on her sickbed. And that worry changed Islamic history. Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 216: "It may be that you dislike something, and it is good for you. While ill in bed, she saw a funeral procession passing by the window. The body was being carried on a flat wooden platform... The rug covering it was wet. And the form of the body was visible. From that moment on, a worry arose in her heart. "What will happen when I die? Will they carry me like that too?" When Hazrat Asma bint Umeys came to visit, she shared this worry with her. And Hazrat Asma remembered a tradition she had seen in Abyssinia. A coffin was made from palm branches. Thus, the first female funeral in Islamic history to be carried in a closed coffin was that of Hazrat Fatima. And Hazrat Fatima made another will: "Bury me at night. Silently. Only my close relatives should be present." ────────────────────────────────── ✦ A LESSON IN CHASTITY AND MODESTY This story teaches us three things: FIRST: Chastity continues not only in life but also in death. Even after her death, Hazrat Fatima requested that her privacy be protected. She maintained this sensitivity until her last breath. SECONDLY: This is the value of a woman in Islam. A woman is so valuable that even her body is considered private. No one can see it. No one can look at it. THIRDLY: This last will of Hazrat Fatima became a first in Islamic history. The first closed coffin was made for her.
